Poetry

Within

by: Karen Jones

Eyes of ice pierce and my skin slips away.
The flesh caressed by a frozen stare, from which it flinches, shrivels,
And falls away, exposing bones white with fear.
The bones shatter, the ash rising
A swirling fog of anticipation, shields my soul.
My writhing spirit shivers
As the fog drifts away on the breath of insanity's cold kiss.
The proof lies there.
The truth of me in barren nudity.
I turn away, afraid to accept my naked gaze.
Revolving in uncertainty.
I meet the stare of the eyes of ice
And the heat overwhelms me
As I embrace Hell.
